Quang Nam: Tourism with “Plastic-Free Hotels”

On September 9th, in Hoi An City, Quang Nam province, the “Zero Plastic Waste Hotel” model was launched for the first time, aiming to eliminate plastic waste from the environment and ensure that tourists no longer use single-use plastic items.
According to Mr. Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, the application of the “Plastic-Free Hotel” model by Hoi An City is a concrete action with great significance in creating a ripple effect among the tourism business community not only in Hoi An but also nationwide, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable tourism development in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Binh, the project “Reducing Plastic Waste in Vietnam’s Tourism Sector” is being actively implemented by the Vietnam Tourism Association over the two years of 2023-2024. Its goal is to promote activities to reduce plastic waste in the tourism sector, contributing to environmental protection and the sustainable development of the tourism industry.
Through the project “Reducing Plastic Waste in Vietnam’s Tourism Sector,” a strong message will be conveyed, calling for the efforts and contributions of people, businesses, communities, and tourists towards the goal of “Plastic-Free Tourism in Vietnam.” In this project, Hoi An City maintains its position as a leading destination in implementing environmental protection measures in Vietnam and will soon promote and spread this model nationwide – shared the Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association…
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, also stated that Silk Sense Hoi An Rivert Resort is a pioneering “plastic-free hotel” model applied in Hoi An city and the entire Quang Nam province. This model has great significance in creating a ripple effect among the tourism business community, not only in Hoi An but nationwide, in their commitment to developing a sustainable green tourism brand.

It is known that in 2023, the Quang Nam province’s tourism industry will continue to promote and encourage all tourism businesses to participate in implementing the Green Tourism Criteria. Specifically, more than 20 businesses have registered to implement the Green Tourism Criteria and participate in the project “Reducing Plastic Waste in Vietnam’s Tourism Sector,” which will be implemented in 2023-2024. The implementation of the Quang Nam province’s Green Tourism Criteria and the “Plastic-Free Hotel” project has contributed to environmental protection and the sustainable development of the green tourism industry.
