On September 9, Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort (Hoi An City) was officially announced as a hotel with no more plastic waste released into the environment and no more single-use plastic items. This is the first zero-plastic waste hotel in Quang Nam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Vu The Binh, Chairman of Vietnam Tourism Association (HHDL) highly appreciated Silk Sense’s efforts in building hotels without plastic waste as a concrete action to join hands to protect the environment. school. This is a practical work with great significance in creating a pervasive influence for the tourism business community not only in Hoi An but across the country about the determination to implement sustainable tourism development in Vietnam.

Mr. Vu The Binh affirmed that, based on the set of criteria “Hotel without plastic waste” built and successfully implemented by the resort, HHDL Vietnam will research, complete and immediately issue it for application. Applying assessments for hotels that are members of Vietnam’s HHDL, moving forward to lobby competent state agencies to officially issue them for application throughout the tourism industry.

Currently, HHDL Vietnam is actively implementing the project “Reducing plastic waste in Vietnam’s tourism sector”, to be implemented in 2023-2024. The project aims to promote activities to reduce plastic waste in the tourism sector, contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development of the tourism industry.

In 2023, the Tourism industry together with HHDL Quang Nam will continue to propagate and encourage all accompanying businesses to implement the Green Tourism Criteria. This year, 20 businesses have registered to implement the Green Tourism Criteria. And at the end of this year, there will be inspection and evaluation to continue to recognize businesses that have achieved the Green Tourism Criteria.
