Hoi An promotes green tourism development and says no to plastic waste.

On September 9th, Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort (Hoi An City) officially announced that it is a hotel that no longer releases plastic waste into the environment and no longer uses single-use plastic items. This is the pioneering hotel in Quang Nam province to eliminate plastic waste.

According to Mr. Tran Thai Do, the investor of Silk Sense resort, with a sustainable development orientation, the hotel has pursued an environmental protection journey from the very beginning of its construction, by using environmentally friendly materials and implementing plastic waste reduction programs within the hotel.

To implement the plan, the hotel has set specific criteria and solutions for each waste problem and applied them consistently and proactively to ensure the complete elimination of plastic waste at the hotel.

Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort uses environmentally friendly materials such as AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) bricks for the construction of the entire building.

Furthermore, the resort utilizes a central inverter air conditioning system and hot water production. From the mineral salt swimming pool and Kangen water bottles to the organic vegetable garden supporting guests’ health, even the smallest personal items in each room use only environmentally friendly materials… ensuring no impact on the environment and, more broadly, the ozone layer.

“Currently, we have drastically reduced plastic waste, so the resort no longer releases plastic waste into the environment and no longer uses single-use plastic items. This action is not simply about protecting the environment but also opens up great opportunities for sustainable tourism. We believe that demonstrating social responsibility and creating a sustainable business model not only attracts responsible tourists but also contributes to building a green brand for Vietnam’s tourism industry,” Mr. Do shared.

According to Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort is the first resort in the locality to be plastic-free. This is a concrete action to implement Quang Nam province’s green tourism development orientation.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Quang Nam province has intensified the implementation of the Green Tourism Criteria, as well as the Provincial Party Committee’s Resolution on building and developing Hoi An into an ecological, cultural, and tourist city.

According to the plan, Quang Nam province will build and develop Hoi An into a sustainable ecological, cultural, and tourist city based on the integration of sustainable economic, environmental, and social factors.

The goal is to develop Hoi An into a unique urban area with criteria equivalent to a type 2 urban area, with the Hoi An Ancient Town World Cultural Heritage Site and the Cham Island – Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve serving as the core elements for persistently implementing the orientation of building an ecological, cultural, and tourist city.

By 2025, the city aims to essentially meet the criteria equivalent to a type 2 urban area. The goal is to perfect tourism business models to ensure they meet green tourism criteria, making Hoi An a green tourism destination, a model tourist city with an attractive national and international brand, a city with comprehensively invested infrastructure, clean and beautiful landscapes, and a spacious and healthy environment.

By 2030, Hoi An city aims to meet the criteria of a Class 2 urban area. Hoi An is one of the tourism centers of the country and the region. Hoi An maintains its brand as a green tourism destination and a typical cultural city of the country and internationally.
