Mr. Tran Thai Do, the investor of Silk Sense Resort, confirmed that Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort (Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province) is a “plastic-free hotel” that eliminates plastic waste from the environment and does not use single-use plastic items.

According to Mr. Do, the problem of plastic pollution is becoming increasingly serious and negatively impacting ecosystems and human health. For the tourism and hospitality industry, the consumption of large quantities of single-use plastic products, which are then discarded, has exacerbated environmental pollution.

As a “plastic-free hotel,” this establishment is committed to eliminating all single-use plastic products from its operations; instead, the hotel offers alternatives such as environmentally friendly products, reusable products, or recyclable products.

“We cannot do this alone. Therefore, we call for the collaboration of the tourism community, suppliers, and customers to jointly build a more sustainable tourism environment,” Mr. Do shared.

According to Mr. Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, with funding from the Global Environment Fund and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/GEF-SGP), the Vietnam Tourism Association is actively implementing the project “Reducing plastic waste in Vietnam’s tourism sector,” which will be carried out over two years, 2023-2024.

Accordingly, the project aims to promote activities to reduce plastic waste in the tourism sector, contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development of the tourism industry.

In addition, the project will focus on raising awareness among all levels of government, sectors, businesses, citizens, and tourists about the harmful effects of plastic waste and the sense of responsibility in reducing plastic waste; and simultaneously, piloting solutions and initiatives to reduce plastic waste at a number of hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and tourist destinations in Ninh Binh and Quang Nam provinces.

According to Mr. Binh, an important aspect of this project will be the development and pilot application of criteria for recognizing tourism businesses as being free of plastic waste, contributing to the widespread adoption of plastic waste reduction practices by businesses.

“The Vietnam Tourism Association hopes that through the activities of this project, it can send a strong message, calling for the efforts and contributions of people, businesses, communities, and tourists towards the goal of: Plastic-free tourism in Vietnam,” Mr. Binh emphasized.

With Silk Sense Hoi An River Resort being a “plastic-free hotel,” Mr. Binh sees this as a concrete action by the business, with great significance in creating a ripple effect among the tourism business community not only in Hoi An but throughout the country regarding the determination to implement sustainable tourism development in Vietnam.

Silk Sense River Hoi An Resort is one of the coastal resorts that always prioritizes sustainable development while also being responsible for preserving the living environment and cultural heritage, contributing to local economic development and jointly promoting the beauty of Hoi An to tourists.

Sustainable development at Silk Sense River Hoi An Resort is evident right from the use of AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete) bricks in the construction of the entire project.

Simultaneously, they utilize a central inverter air conditioning system and hot water production. From the mineral salt swimming pool and Kangen water bottles to the organic vegetable garden supporting guests’ health, even the smallest personal items in each room use only environmentally friendly materials… to ensure that the architectural structures, construction equipment, and daily activities do not affect the ozone layer…
