Based on the set of criteria “Hotel without plastic waste” developed and successfully implemented by Silk Sense River Hoi An Resort with 70 criteria, the Vietnam Tourism Association will research, complete and promulgate. to apply the assessment to hotels and resorts that are members of the Vietnam Tourism Association, moving towards applying it throughout the tourism industry.

Tourism is considered a sector seriously affected by plastic waste pollution, but is also a significant source of plastic waste. The Vietnam Tourism Association has actively and proactively launched environmental protection initiatives and deployed them to tourism businesses nationwide.

Currently, with sponsorship from the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP/GEF-SGP), the Vietnam Tourism Association is actively implementing the project “Reducing plastic waste in the field of plastic waste.” Vietnam tourism sector”, implemented in 2023-2024 to promote activities to reduce plastic waste in the tourism sector, focusing on activities to raise awareness of businesses, people, tourists about the harmful effects of plastic waste and their sense of responsibility in reducing plastic waste…

At the same time, deploy the development and pilot application of a set of criteria for recognizing plastic-free tourism businesses, contributing to replicating plastic waste management practices of businesses, calling for efforts join hands and contribute from people, businesses, communities and tourists for the goal of “Tourism without plastic waste in Vietnam”.

The set of criteria “Hotel without plastic waste” was developed and successfully implemented by Silk Sense River Hoi An Resort with 70 criteria belonging to 11 groups of criteria for 3 implementing entities.

Specifically, the hotel implements general policies; solutions to reduce plastic waste for hotel staff; waste classification at source; Minimize plastic waste in guest rooms, restaurants, bars and kitchens, and conference rooms.

Suppliers change their habits of using single-use plastic items; Select suppliers that meet requirements of not using or minimizing plastic waste; Handling plastic bags and packaging that must be used.

Guests staying and using services at the hotel are urged to accompany and exercise responsibility for reducing plastic waste. All types of plastic waste generated from guests’ needs and discarded at the hotel are classified and processed.
